At ENSI Bourges, Training, Research and Value complement each other and make up an indivisible triptych. We are convinced that “Research elevates teaching” because it is of capital importance to the future of graduating engineers.
Furthermore, our School’s high potential for research is a guarantee of high-level training as it is in synergy with the industrial world and the main unifying themes of the moment.
The training of ENSI engineers is based in particular on work in the field of risk:
Teacher-researchers are deeply involved in the life of both laboratories located at the ENSI Bourges site, twinned with the University of Orléans.
The PRISME Institute (Pluridisciplinaire de Recherche en Ingénierie des Systèmes, Mécanique, Energétique – Multidisciplinary Research in Systems, Mechanics and Energy) is dedicated to research activities in analysis and the modelization of complex systems through a systemic approach.
The vocation of the PRISME Institute is multidisciplinary in the Engineering Sciences, and spans a broad spectrum of disciplinary fields including engine combustion, energy, aerodynamics, equipment mechanics, signal and image processing, automation and robotics.
LIFO (Laboratoire d’Informatique Fondamentale d’Orléans – Fundamental IT Laboratory of Orléans) is the second laboratory shared by the University of Orléans and ENSI Bourges.
Research carried out at LIFO involves software science and engineering. It aims to improve programming theories and the resulting techniques. LIFE researchers define, modify and customize numerous mathematical models for computer calculation and the software that defines the calculations.
Engineering students at ENSI Bourges can do a Research Masters as part of a double degree program in the 3rd year.
Six research masters are currently offered to engineering students, depending on the program.
Engineering students who do a master’s in the double degree program can continue their studies to a doctorate.
Adding value to research is the third function of ENSI Bourges. This has been made possible and particularly efficient due to its close relationships with the world of enterprise within the framework of joint ventures, projects and various partnerships (ALSTOM, MBDA, NEXTER, CEA, etc.)
At ENSI Bourges, value is based in particular on the Pôle National des Risques Industriels (National Business Unit for Industrial Risks) (PNRI) which the school has piloted.
PNRI consolidates, within the framework of a research and technology transfer partnership, eight organizations, universities and schools (ENSI Bourges, ENSMA, CEA, DGA/ETBS, INERIS, IRSN and the Universities at Orléans and Poitiers).
Thanks to PNRI, close interaction has been created between research organizations, enterprise and teaching structures based on industrial risk management linked to explosions, processes at risk and crisis management phenomena.
